Utterly Terrible

Things went catastrophically wrong. It was a real train wreck. We tried to {compensate|mitigate the situation, but it was like trying to stop a tsunami with a teaspoon. We're still picking up the shards and feeling the impact of this disaster.

Or were we just simply unfortunate enough to witness this spectacle unfold?

Dreadful Day Ever

It all started with a terrible case of uncontrollable hair. I couldn't make it to look presentable. As I was dashing out the door, I fell and dropped my lunch all over read more the carpet. To make matters worse, I was extremely late for work.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then everything went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
